Usually we’d advise you not to read too much into this — we’d point out that this was a themed ad served up before the showing of Lawrence of Arabia at London’s Secret Cinema event — but what the hell: Microsoft says the revolution ’s coming. It’s on now! We knew LG’s C900 QWERTY-packing Windows Phone 7 handset was sliding towards an AT&T finish line , but it’s looking like the company’s E900 slate phone might play for Team Blue as well — here’s an FCC report (the third Federal scoop in an hour!) that shows the handset boasting GSM 850 and 1900 radio frequencies as well as compatible 3G data. You can also expect Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz WiFi alongside that 1GHz Snapdragon SoC when or if the handset hits US shores. We don’t know nearly as much about the Android-based LG E720 (which apparently just popped in for a quick Bluetooth test) but a filing suggests it might not be destined for the US — unlike with the E900, there’s no mention of WCDMA 850, 1900, or AWS for 3G data, only the comparatively slow EDGE. LG’s E900 and E720 handsets hit the FCC, one with AT&T-compatible frequencies originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 01 Sep 2010 21:30:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink

We imagine that LG’s security forces are combing Poland as we speak, because Android.com.pl has just provided us with yet another high-end handset leak. This LG C900 (last seen combing AT&T trenches ) reportedly joins LG’s E900 in housing a 1GHz QSD8650 Snapdragon chipset under its sliding-QWERTY hood. Though our first look at the device suggested a plasticky matte frame, our erudite Polish informants tell us the phone’s mostly metal inside — despite a comparatively teensy 3.2-inch capacitive screen, they say it weighs about as much as an original Motorola Droid . A 3.5mm jack and a miniUSB port will play nice with headsets and charging cables respectively, and the site says it’ll run 1,100 zloty (about $350) if or when LG’s marketers recover from the shock of these leaked details and decide to ship. Find a video after the break and a host of similarly excellent pictures at our source link. Update: Did we say 1.3GHz? We meant 1.0. As it turns out, Google Translate enjoys adding the letter “A” to acronyms immediately preceding a Polish comma, which made a 1GHz QSD8650 SoC look like a 1.3GHz QSD8650A to our tired eyes. Apologies! [Thanks, Anudeep] Continue reading LG’s C900 Windows Phone 7 handset resurfaces with 1GHz Snapdragon, metal frame? You’ve already gotten one flavor of Windows Phone 7 from HTC via the feds’ filing system — but how about another? This time around, the ID label HTC has filed is a screaming yellow, suggesting that this bad boy is going to lean toward the fashionable side of things (assuming you thought the HD Mini and Aria were fashionable, that is). As we mentioned, this particular unit seems destined for Europe, a fact we’re gleaning from the filing’s apparent lack of mention of any US-compatible WCDMA or EV-DO — the only reason it’s in here is to cover EDGE 850 / 1900 plus 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth. Considering how HTC’s been operating as of late, we wouldn’t be surprised to see an Americanized version of this puppy — whatever it is — but for now, you Euros can revel in your exclusive. Turns out the Secret Society of Blurrycam isn’t just a group of freelancers. Courtesy of the Windows Phone NL group comes a pretty high resolution — albeit slightly out of focus — shot of the LG E900 / Optimus 7 .That ain’t enough for you? Boy Genius Report claims it’s heard from a source that the LG C900 will hit the scene as Pacific, and if that sounds familiar, we kindly point your attention to a Pocket-lint piece from late July where Microsoft product manager Greg Sullivan namedropped a LG Pacific without elaborating. One and the same? Tired of waiting on Windows Phone 7 devices? Us too — one day at a time. In case you needed any more evidence that AT&T is going all-in with Windows Phone 7 , take a gander at this little beast, a phone known only as the HTC T8788 at this point (rest assured, you’ll get a snappy, memorable, trademarkable name by the time it’s on shelves). Though it’s a landscape slider, it doesn’t slide to reveal what you’d normally expect — a keyboard, that is. Instead, you get a speaker, an unusual (though not unprecedented ) concept that should make this a decent media device… and the kickstand around back should help with that, too. We’d argue that this is the prettiest WinPho 7-powered device we’ve seen so far — not surprising, considering HTC’s reputation — though we’re sure plenty of folks would prefer the QWERTY. The Bluetooth SIG has a long history of promoting its members’ “special interests” by leaking valuable tidbits about their handsets before they’re announced. The recently unearthed LG C900 is the latest of these, being pegged for a launch date “around” September 28th by the SIG’s detail page on the phone. The QWERTY slider, which is referred to in C900N, C900k, and C900B versions, will be available in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Phone Arena conjectures that the launch date lines up with AT&T’s marketing materials timing and the slated Q4 launch of Windows Phone 7, so the C900 probably has a decent chance of being the first Windows Phone 7 phones to market if LG’s own GW910 or some more secretive set doesn’t beat it to the punch, but September still seems a bit earlier than any of the launch windows Microsoft has managed to let slip . Whatever wraps Windows Phone 7 handsets were being kept under seem to have all but vanished. Following in the glorious footsteps of the Samsung i917 , the HTC Schubert , and its own brand-mate, the C900 , here we have LG’s E900 WP7 device. It does away with the physical keyboard of its brother, allowing for an aggressively thin design, and still features Microsoft’s mandated three buttons across the bottom, though only the Start key is delineated in white. It would seem the Back and Search buttons either haven’t yet received their lick of paint or are going to be kept monochromatic to stick with the minimalistic aesthetic. Slide past the break to see the E900 in richly blurred motion. You can read that as bitter hype; then again, we’re looking at a company that’s known to live up to its words . In a recent interview with UDN , Acer Inc. Chairman JT Wang echoed ASUS’ recent forecast regarding the iPad’s erosion of the netbook market in the US and UK, although he also pointed out that netbooks are still selling like hotcakes in developing countries. As for the tablet market itself, Wang believes that Apple’s closed camp operation will ultimately bow to other joint forces once the market matures, thus lowering the iPad’s current near-100 percent share to somewhere between 20 and 30 percent. Hell, the man even suggested this could be an over-estimation, and referred to the Mac’s minuscule 5 percent global share over the last few years. And you know what? He might be right. That doesn’t mean that the iPad’s days are numbered though since Apple’s never been interested in taking part in the ” race to the bottom .” Apple measures success by profits, not market share — even a small percentage of high-margin laptop and smartphone sales has proven to be a very good thing for Apple’s bottom line. Besides, if open is such a great thing, we’d like to question Wang on what caused the Windows-based tablets to flop in the first place? Regardless, this would certainly be another prediction to look out for in a few years’ time.
