Here’s what we know: there are at least two Android products from HTC that have recently secured FCC approval with support for AT&T’s 3G bands. Of course, that alone doesn’t mean that they’re coming to AT&T — far from it — but PhoneDog has it on authority from a “connect that works for AT&T” that there’ll be a phone known as the HTC “Aria” launching on June 7 with Android 2.1 and Sense . Whether this will be an AT&T-tweaked Legend , the PC70110 (pictured), or something else entirely is an open question, but one thing’s for sure: AT&T seriously can’t get enough Android hardware right now. Sarotech’s newest might not be the wildest media player in town, but if you’re looking to get down to business in a svelte (4.5 x 3.75 x 0.85-inch) package, the T2 should be more than up to the task. This bad boy sports a Sigma SMPS8653 CPU (500MHz), support for Full HD MKV, H.264 videos, DTS and Dolby sound, and 1080p HDMI 1.3 output. If that weren’t enough, this will also apparently function as a NAS functions (including FTP and Samba), 802.11n WiFi, and it has a USB port for external storage. Available now in South Korea for 160,000 won (about $143). The kids at Onda have had a sideline in nondescript PMPs for years now, but that doesn’t mean they lack dreams and aspirations, no sir! The VX560 shows ‘em taking a cautious step up the evolutionary ladder with a 7-inch touchscreen slate that rocks 1080p video output via HDMI, support for a plethora of video formats (including H.264, AVI, MOV, MPG, and FLV), a 800 x 480 display, an array of ebook formats (including PDF, PDB, and CHM), and text-to-speech — although exactly what language it will be reading in is anybody’s guess. You know what else is “anybody’s guess?” When it will be released, and for what price. Onda VX560 looks like a slate, acts like a PMP, outputs 1080p originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 14 Apr 2010 10:47:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
In 1997, Hypersonic joined the likes of Voodoo , AlienWare and Falcon Northwest in the gamble that gamers would buy what were then gut-wrenchingly expensive (think $10,000) custom PCs. Ten years later, it was gobbled up by memory manufacturer OCZ , and soon came to our attention for selling a chic, tiny, but somehow nicely specced 12.1-inch laptop. Today, the company is no more. The Hypersonic website reads that the firm is no longer accepting orders, and Techgage — speaking to OCZ’s chief marketing office Alex Mei — reports that while OCZ will honor all warranties, the company is ceasing marketing and sales support for the Hypersonic brand. Sad, yes, but at least it’s one fewer temptation to lure us extreme gamers into bankruptcy. Razer already provides full Mac support for a few of its gaming peripherals — including the Naga and DeathAdder — and basic support for others, but it’s now taken avantage of GDC to “reaffirm” its commitment to Mac users. That apparently means that “all upcoming” Razer products — including the company’s line of StarCraft II peripherals — will boast full Mac support out of the box, and that the company will be rolling out updates to some of its existing products “later this year,” including the Orochi , Mamba , and Imperator gaming mice. Amazingly enough, the PMP news here at CES has been essentially nil. We’ve got e-readers , whiffs of tablets and more 3D than two eyes can comprehend, but we’re in desperate need of some fresh portable media players. Thanks to iriver, we won’t be going home completely empty handed, with the K1 “Smart HD” being ushered out onto the public scene in Las Vegas. Specs include a 3.5-inch display, a 480 x 320 resolution, support for a slew of file formats, WiFi, some sort of web browser and a DMB TV tuner. It’s slated to be released in South Korea for an undisclosed amount later this month, but alas, there’s no immediate word on when this will hit the States. iriver’s 3.5-inch K1 PMP gets outed at CES originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 08 Jan 2010 16:51:00 EST. Think it’s only gamers that require mice with more buttons than a scientific calculator? Then you’ve probably not met a die hard OpenOffice user, who now finally have a mouse to call their own in the form of the OpenOfficeMouse. Developed by WarMouse in partnership with the OpenOffice.org community, this corded point-and-clicker packs no less than 18 programmable buttons (each with double-click functionality), along with support for up to 63 separate profiles, a clickable scroll wheel, an adjustable resolution from 400 to 1,600 CPI, and, get this, a built-in analog joystick that can itself be used to store up to sixteen different keys or macros. Still no firm word on availability, it seems, but you can expect to pay $74.99 for this one. Archos has been on a real PMP tear as of late, releasing the Archos 2 Vision, 3 Vision, and the Clipper all in one pop back in August. The company’s now launched yet another Vision model, the entry-level 1 Vision. This tiny little 4GB dude has a 1.5-inch LCD and supposedly gets about 20 hours of battery life per charge. No video support in this puppy, but the €30 (somewhere in the realm of $45) pricetag should temper some of your crushing disappointment over its lack of features. The Archos 1 Vision should be available in Europe by the end of November. Yet another CEDIA has come and gone, and while some of our greatest hopes for Media Center came true ( CableCard is no longer OEM onl y, Switched Digital Video support for the tuning adapter is coming) several more did not (Zune HD integration and any new CableCard announcements from ATI.) Peep the recap post on Engadget HD for the full rundown on what did and didn’t happen in Media Center news from Atlanta, and what Microsoft’s next plans for Windows Media Center could (& should) be.
